Let's Practice: Scott

Scott is 12 years old. He has lived with his foster parents, Bob and Margaret Simmons, for 11 months. Scott has never had any issues while living with the Simmons and is developmentally on target.

Three weeks ago, while cleaning Scott's room, Mrs. Simmons discovered two orange pills hidden in a plastic baggie under Scott's mattress. When confronted, Scott confessed the pills were the drug Adderall, but he promised he had not taken any and had never used drugs before. Scott said he got the pills from his school friend, Ray (age 13). Scott said Ray told him the pills would help him study for a big test. Scott told Mrs. Simmons that he was afraid to take the pills, so he hid them. After Mrs. Simmons explained the danger of using drugs, Scott cried and apologized and said he would never again accept drugs of any kind from others.

After this incident, Scott was invited to Ray's birthday slumber party, which would be the next day. He asked Mrs. Simmons if he could attend. Mrs. Simmons doesn't know Ray or Ray's mother and is concerned because of the incident with the pills. There are no special supervision precautions in Scott's service plan.
