When children and youth in DFPS conservatorship have a higher risk of running away, it is important to identify supports and interventions to prevent this behavior.
When a child or youth is missing from care, we cannot be sure the child is safe or reduce the risk of the child or youth experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect, or becoming a victim of trafficking.
With this in mind, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 781 in 2019, requiring DFPS to establish strategies to reduce the number of incidents in which a child or youth in DFPS conservatorship runs away or is missing from their placement.
