If the child or youth runs away or goes missing, immediately begin informing others and searching for the child or youth. Do the following:
- Call law enforcement and make a missing child report.
- Call the child or youth’s caseworker to let them know that the child is missing. If the caseworker is unavailable or it is after hours, call the DFPS hotline at 1-800-252-5400.
- Contact the school so they understand the situation if the child or youth returns to school.
- Reach out to parents of the child or youth’s friends to see if they have heard from them.
