About the Conference
Here at APS, our mantra is “Protecting the Unprotected”. This is what we do. Our mission is to protect older adults and persons with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. But we don’t do this work alone. APS counts on the efforts of a wide variety of partners. Our 41st Annual Conference will provide an opportunity for APS staff and its partners to engage and learn about possible solutions to help improve the lives of our vulnerable clients.
To highlight the importance of partnerships, APS will use the conference to launch its inaugural Partnership Awards. These awards will acknowledge a select group of critical partners APS leadership has identified as going above and beyond in the service of a common client.
By oneself, or in isolation, we might be limited in what we can do, but working together with our partners across the health and social services ecosystem, as well as law enforcement and the judiciary, and others who serve vulnerable adults, we can find solutions and resources, and begin to identify the system changes needed to make abuse, neglect, and exploitation a thing of the past. Ensuring the safety and preserving the dignity of vulnerable adults is important work. And recognizing our partners who help make this work possible is the right thing to do.
The annual conference is a time dedicated to offering training, resources, and continuing education from top experts in the field. We seek to showcase innovative tools which equip attendees on how to best serve our wide array of clients, as well as take care of ourselves through self-care practices. The conference is attended by caseworkers, supervisors, and professionals in similar fields, including guardianship, ombudsman, law enforcement, the judiciary, social services, healthcare, and academia. For the past three years, we have hosted a hybrid conference, with select sessions offered virtually and a full slate of tracks for in-person attendees. This year, we are planning to keep that hybrid model as we host the conference at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston, Texas. As the longest-running APS conference in the country, the Texas APS Conference is a highly anticipated time for networking, hands-on learning, and camaraderie with people from across Texas and other parts of the globe.
