Dealing with Difficult Behaviors
If the child or youth has behaviors that are difficult to deal with, try to view those behaviors through a trauma-informed lens.
For example, with compassion, ask questions like:
- What is really going on behind the behavior?
- What is the child, youth, or family feeling?
- Why is the child, youth, or family feeling nervous?
- Why is the child, youth, or family feeling sad?
- Why is the child, youth, or family feeling scared?
- Does the child or youth need food, rest, or exercise?
