When a child or youth is at risk of running away, it is important for the child or youth to feel that they are heard.

  • Talk with the child or youth about their thoughts and feelings.
  • Help them feel validated with their point of view.
  • The caseworker encourages the caregiver to talk to the child or youth about the child’s thoughts and feelings.
  • The caseworker talks with the child or youth about the dangers of running away and the desire to keep them safe from those dangers.
