Personal Use of State Owned Property

Did you know it is illegal in Texas to use state-owned property such as computers, equipment, or supplies for personal business?

A vounteer:

  • Is allowed to make brief, local telephone calls. However, volunteers are not allowed to make personal, long-distance calls at the state’s expense.
  • A volunteer does not have a right to privacy in any of the property provided by DFPS.
  • Without advance notice, DFPS reserves the right to:
      •   Monitor voice mail messages.
      •   Monitor messages sent over the e-mail system.
      •   Monitor Internet usage.
      •   Monitor the computer files of DFPS volunteers.
      •   Examine any state-owned equipment or property.
