DFPS has quite a few resource rooms around the state that help Adult Protective Services (APS) caseworkers provide goods to assist our clients.

Adult Protective Services

These resource rooms are set up like a store, where caseworkers can find basic necessities and emergency resources 24 hours a day for vulnerable adults who have been abused and/or neglected. This includes things like dietary supplements, adult diapers, and toiletries.

Resource rooms for vulnerable adults go by different names - most commonly "Silver Star Rooms" - and receive assistance from non-profit corporations, local APS boards, their local communities. Our statewide board, Texas Partners for Adult Protective Services, also contributes donations to keep these rooms stocked.

Local resource rooms save time and money, APS workers say. A lot of our clients live on approximately $914 a month and $23 in food stamps. Giving them supplies like detergent, bath soap, and toilet paper frees up their money for things like food, shelter, and medicine.
