- Issue licenses to facilities meeting minimum standards and
- monitor/inspect to see that they are met;
- Investigate complaints and see that corrective action is taken;
- Register and list family homes;
- Provide technical assistance on meeting and maintaining standards and achieving quality in child care; and
- Administer the Alternative Accreditation program to allow child-care facilities the opportunity to operate under the regulation of a private accrediting body approved by PRS instead of under the direct regulation of PRS
