Lisa Kanne has dedicated her career to strengthening operations and improving outcomes for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, where she has served since 1999.
She currently serves as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Operations where she provides strategic leadership and oversight for several key administrative divisions, including Information Technology Services, Information Security, Data and Reporting, Background Check and Search Services, and Heightened Monitoring. In this role, Kanne drives operational excellence, systems modernization, and enterprise-wide alignment across these critical functions.
Previously, Kanne served for five years as the agency’s Chief Operating Officer, where she led major operational areas such as Information Technology, Information Security, contracting functions, facilities, records and workforce functions. Her earlier leadership roles at DFPS include Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Operational Support Services Director, Residential Child Care Licensing Supervisor, Child Care Licensing Inspector, and Statewide Intake worker.
Kanne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and a Master of Arts degree in Human Services, with a concentration in Conflict Resolution and Mediation. Kanne has completed the Texas Governor’s Executive Development program, and the Executive Leadership Academy through the Health and Human Services Commissioner (HHSC) Leadership program, further demonstrating her commitment to executive skill-building and continuous improvement.
