Supervised Independent Living (SIL) is a voluntary Extended Foster Care placement where young adults live on their own, while still getting casework and support services to help them become independent and self-sufficient.
- These SIL contracted providers serve all young adults in foster care in Texas, no matter where they are from or where the contractors are located.

- Young adults must be accepted to the college or university to enter campus-based SIL.
Note: Placement of a legacy young adult into a Community-Based Care (CBC) Single Source Continuum Contractor (SSCC) area must follow the protocol outlined in the designated SSCC’s Joint Operations Manual. Please reach out to sil@dfps.texas.gov for questions.
