DFPS hosts a variety of internships across all divisions and regions of the state. Our internships:
- Meet academic requirements
- Provide practical experience
- Offer a venue where students can apply skills learned in the classroom
We offer a broad range of internships to students of different academic levels. If you are a student or post-graduate interested in interning with DFPS, check out the different types of internship opportunities we have available.
Internships are offered three times a year — during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. New internship postings are listed two months before the start of each semester.
Full-time jobs at DFPS can be found through the Texas Health and Human Services Jobs Center.
Benefits of Interning with DFPS
DFPS internships provide students with hands-on experience doing real world work that benefits Texans. We have placements for interns across the agency in areas ranging from child welfare, adult welfare, helplines, legal, data analysis, communications, government relations, and more.
Along with the day-to-day work, we provide additional educational and networking opportunities to expose students to the varied work of DFPS as well as the many career paths available. Multiple interns have gone on to full-time staff roles at the agency.
Program Components
In addition to the hands-on work, the DFPS internship program offers an in-depth intern experience, with a variety of structured activities to develop professional skills and gain a more comprehensive understanding of DFPS. These activities include:
- DFPS orientation
- Program-specific training
- Professional development webinars
- Group supervision
