Intensive Peer Support Services (IPSS) aims to:
- Decrease the number of youth aging out of foster care from congregate care settings
- Strengthen self-esteem
- Improve communication skills
- Enhance mental and emotional well-being
- Foster positive family engagement and personal growth
- Promote the development of independent living skills
DFPS Intensive Peer Support Services (IPSS) is a structured six-month mentorship program, supporting high acuity youth in foster care through relationship-based peer engagement. Regional community contractors will employ Peer Support Specialists (PSS) to provide a minimum of six hours of weekly, in-person individualized support to youth.
Eligible Youth
DFPS caseworkers and SSCC equivalent staff will refer youth who are:
- In DFPS conservatorship;
- Aged 16–17; and
- Currently in a congregate care setting, such as
- Residential Treatment Center (RTC)
- Children Without Placement (CWOP)
- At risk of entering CWOP
