This revision of the Statewide Intake Policy and Procedures Handbook was published on April 1, 2021. Summaries of new or revised items are provided below.
CRSR Protective Service Alert (PATS 13287)
This handbook revision adds two steps to SWI procedures for closing a Protective Service Alert at intake.

Declining an Interpreter (PATS 13082)
This handbook revision adds one new section and edits two others to address what the intake specialist does in the following situations:
- A reporter declines to use an interpreter.
- An internet, mail, or fax report is received and the narrative is in Spanish.

UTC Procedures (PATS 13262)
This handbook revision provides additional guidance to intake staff when an intake specialist finds a red sunburst during a history search of the family and the reporter can provide a current address for the family.

New 6000 and 7000 Sections (PATS 12947)
The 7000 section of the SWI Handbook was the Provider Investigations (PI) section. In this revision, SWI has rewritten it and divided it into two sections – the 6000 and 7000 sections. The new 6000 section covers facilities that PI investigates, and the new 7000 section covers community providers that PI investigates. See the table below documenting the new policy locations.
Additionally, two other sections have been renumbered to accommodate this revision:
- 6000 Adult Protective Services In-Home (APS) has become 5000, and the digit 6 has been replaced with 5 in all its subitems. However, there are no policy changes.
- 5000 Child Care Investigations (CCI) and Child Care Regulation (CCR) has become 8000, and the digit 5 has been replaced with 8 in all its subitems. However, there are no policy changes.
