This revision of the DFPS Centralized Background Check Unit Operating Handbook was published on October 2, 2017. Summaries of new or revised items are provided below.
1300 Definitions and 4000 to clarify background check procedures (PATS 10247)
This revision:
• deletes the term Cenpatico from 1300 Definitions of Terms;
• adds the terms CBCU Staff, DPS Rap Back, FBI Exigent Check, FBI Name Check, and Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to 1300 Definitions of Terms;
• adds the definitions of background check types; and
• clarifies and updates background check procedures.

New 6000 Central Registry Checks for the Public (PATS 10292)
Because of the implementation of the Childcare and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), a new Section 6000 was added to the CBCU handbook to include:
• instructions for requesting an In State or Out of State check of the central registry;
• what happens to the results; and
• what to do when central registry results are received.
