Volunteers play an important role in helping DFPS accomplish its mission. Legislators recognize the value of volunteers and have mandated the use of volunteer programs in human services agencies and in local governments that contract to deliver human services. Volunteers may be approved to work with DFPS in the following ways:

- Faith-Based and Community Engagement specialists coordinate the supervision of volunteers in the DFPS regions.
- The Faith-Based and Community Engagement (FBCE) Division develops policies and procedures related to volunteers and provides guidance to the FBCE specialists.
