Appendix 2411: Dispositions and Risk Findings Appropriate To the Types of Investigations

Thorough Investigations
In a thorough investigation, a worker must give each allegation one of the following dispositions:
· Reason to Believe
· Unable to Determine
· Ruled Out
· Administrative Closure
One or more (but not all) allegations may be given the disposition of Administrative Closure.
The risk finding may be Risk Indicated, Factors Controlled, No Significant Factors, or Risk Assessment Not Applicable.
Abbreviated Investigations
When documenting an abbreviated investigation, the combination of the overall disposition and risk finding can be only one of the following:
· Ruled Out with Factors Controlled
· Ruled Out with No Significant Factors
· Ruled Out with Risk Assessment Not Applicable
Unable to Complete Investigations
Unable to Complete investigations are those in which one of the following applies:
· The family cannot be located to begin the investigation because:
· CPS lacks the necessary information, such as a current address, or
· the family was contacted and then moved and can no longer be located to complete the investigation, or
· The family refuses to cooperate with the investigation or appears to be avoiding CPS intervention.
All allegations are given the disposition of Unable to Complete or Administrative Closure, which results in an overall disposition of Unable to Complete.
The risk finding is Risk Assessment Not Applicable.
Preliminary / Administrative Closures
In a preliminary/administrative closure investigation:
· All allegations are given the disposition of Administrative Closure, which results in an overall disposition of Administrative Closure.
· The risk finding is Risk Assessment Not Applicable.
Types of Investigations by Overall Disposition and Risk Finding
The following chart lists the types of investigations workers may conduct and provides the overall disposition and risk finding they may use to complete the case:
