Handbook Revision, June 25, 2024
These revisions of the Child Protective Services Handbook were published on June 25, 2024.
On September 1, 2017, the investigations branch of CPS became a separate division named Child Protective Investigations (CPI). Until CPI develops its own policy handbook, investigation policies and procedures will remain in the CPS Handbook.

Alternative Response (PATS 13512)
Changes have been made to add additional guidance regarding safety and risk assessments. These changes reflect new language regarding the home where abuse or neglect is alleged and define which home is to be assessed. There is also added information regarding photographs and audio recordings in Alternative Response (AR) cases. The time frame for ongoing contacts has been changed from seven days to 15 days. Policy is being updated to reflect these changes.
