Adoptive home study (Pre-adoptive home screening)
OTI (out of town inquiry) home study
Adoptive home study (Pre-adoptive home screening) — A study of a household to assess a potential adoptive parent's past and present levels of functioning to determine his or her ability to adopt when the family only wants to adopt a child through DFPS. This type of home study is now called a Pre-Adoptive Home Screening in the Texas Family Code.
Child-specific study — A study of a household for an identified child with the specific intent of placing that child in the home.
Non-child-specific study — A study of a household for which a child has not yet been identified.
Court-ordered home study — A study of a household that is initiated by court order.
Foster/Adoptive Home Study — A study of a household in which the family wants to provide 24-hour care and/or to adopt children in the managing conservatorship of DFPS.
Foster home study — A study of a household in which the family wants to provide only 24-hour care for children in the managing conservatorship of DFPS.
Home study — A study of a household to assess a parent's or potential caregiver's past and present levels of functioning to determine his or her ability to foster or adopt or to relative care.
OTI (out of town inquiry) home study — A study of a household requested by another DFPS region.
Relative home study — A study of a household done for a specific, related child in the managing conservatorship of DFPS with the intent of placing that child in the home with a relative or a person with a long-standing relationship with the child.
