Handbook Revision, February 3, 2025

This revision of the Child Protective Services Handbook was published on February 3, 2025.

On September 1, 2017, the investigations branch of CPS became a separate division named Child Protective Investigations (CPI). Until CPI develops its own policy handbook, investigation policies and procedures will remain in the CPS Handbook.

Birth Records (PATS 14075)

The policy is being revised as part of the transitioning youth personal documents workgroup project. This revision clarifies that birth certificates can be ordered to meet requirements of policy 6452 Personal Documents Provided to Youth.

Program Director Involvement in Family-Based Safety Services (PATS 14147)

This handbook revision does the following:

  • Moves and clarifies the section about the program director’s role in Family-Based Safety Services (FBSS).
  • Adds a new section requiring the program director to review an FBSS case that has been open for six consecutive months and will not be closed within the current month.
