This revision of the Child Protective Services Handbook was published on March 3, 2025.

On September 1, 2017, the investigations branch of CPS became a separate division named Child Protective Investigations (CPI). Until CPI develops its own policy handbook, investigation policies and procedures will remain in the CPS Handbook.

CPI Required Notification When Changes Are Made to a Closed Investigation (PATS 14318)

This update indicates that Form 2230 Notification of Changes Made to an Investigation Report will no longer be uploaded into OneCase but will be completed in IMPACT instead.

Interviewing An Alleged Perpetrator, Parent, Legal Guardian or Other Adult in a Home Where There is Alleged Abuse or Neglect (PATS 14339)

These policy updates include that face-to-face contact must be made with an alleged perpetrator of abuse and neglect, a parent, legal guardian, or other adult who lives in the home where abuse or neglect is alleged. If a face-to-face interview cannot be held, the case worker must receive approval from a supervisor and ensure this approval is documented.
